Augering the Fishlake Bank
In March 2017 archaeologists from the University of Winchester, assisted by project members, carried out an auger survey of the Fishlake. Permission was granted by the landowner, Christopher Saunders-Davies, to take samples along a transect west of the Fishlake and extending onto the edge of the artificial bank. This location was near the start of the Fishlake where the water was diverted from the Test. The banks here are relatively slight - they increase in size as the Fishlake crosses the width of the floodplain up to the river terrace.
